Bonjour Pom d’Api

There is something about a beautifully crafted, French children’s sandal that makes my heart sing… I don’t know exactly what it is but I know that it makes me think of walking along the croisette in Cannes watching the kids run about on the beaches below while the sea laps up at their feet.

Pom d’Api is THE French children’s shoe brand.  They are nearly impossible to find them in the States and every time that I try I can never find the cool colors and I always get stuck with tan or black.  This season I just broke down and said, “We need them – and in NEON!”  As most of you know NEON is the new “it” trend for the season.  It started last year, but this summer it has really gone mainstream (in a good way) at places like J Crew and The Gap.  We know all of you moms and dads remember the neon trend from the 80’s and 90’s but we think it’s completely fresh this time around!  Look at the great pops of color you can get in accessories – scarves, belts and most importantly shoes!

Anyway, trust me on this one… you will only need one sandal this summer and THIS is it (unless you need both colors like I do…).  Beautiful leather uppers, a supportive rubber sole and TONS of gorgeous French style.  Why?  Because your petite fille deserves it…

Trade show maddness…

We here at Picnic have spent the past few days at the New York childrenswear trade shows so that we can bring you the VERY best for Fall 2013.  We know it’s hard to think about back to school shopping when we’re still only 7 days away from spring, but humor us for just a moment…

Trends that are standing out in the kids market for Fall 2013 are as follows:

– 1970’s Retro – make it mustard and put a peter pan collar on it… yup, we said it… and it’s really stinkin’ cute too… just go with it…

–  Bollywood chic – harem pants, elephant prints and jewel tones.  Pink Chicken hit the nail on the head with this one.

–  Animals – ROAR – slap a tiger or a wolf on it and it’s completely on trend.  These are not subtle prints, though some of them may have that “faded, vintage” look… these are ferocious beasts…and they’re pretty awesome.

–  Homespun Chic – knit it, crochet it, embroider it… make it look like your granny had a hand in making it for you… even if she only shops on Madison Avenue.
